Washington State has an historic opportunity to triple the number of Black elected officials in the state legislature this year. Launched in early June as an idea from State Senator Mona Das, Shasti Conrad, and Tracy Williams, the Opportunity PAC, highlights and supports strong and courageous people who identify as Black women, actively seeking elected positions and political offices.
Opportunity PAC serves as a bridge to providing access, financial support, campaign support, mentoring, and other resources to help gain and sustain effective and efficient positioning throughout candidacy once elected. Opportunity PAC recognizes that while Black women bring a diverse perspective and exemplary expertise to family, community, and legislative policies and initiatives, historically, the political system has limited the inclusion of such critical subject matter expert voices.
On Weds., Oct. 14, Opportunity PAC will showcase a celebration event for the collective accomplishments and elevation of Black women in elected positions. The “Elect Black Women Pre-Funk Celebration” will feature special guests Gabrielle Union, Sen. Nina Turner, U.S. Rep. Pramila Jayapal (WA-07), U.S. Rep. Rashida Talib (MI-13), Opal Tometi, co-founder of BLM, and Cori Bush. There will be music from local artists Lady A, Stephanie Anne Johnson, and ParisAlexa. Fantastic Negrito and Tank from Tank and the Bangas will headline.
The event will be hosted by KD Hall, Erin Jones, Dawn Bennett and Cindi Bright. Tickets are available online at https://www.opportunity-pac.com/
The candidate’s collective political platforms encompass the needs of a diverse community, activists and advocates, affordable and accessible healthcare, affordable housing equality, commonwealth, community collaborations and leadership, high-quality education and teacher support, legislative and board representation, mentorship, safe schools, and communities, small business and economic development, support for crime victims, transportation, veteran support, the voice for those unrepresented, women and children’s rights, workforce and wage equality, youth leadership, and more.
Funds raised by the event will build and support the successful campaigns of the Black women running for political office in Washington State.
