People Speak: Do You Think Black Children Fair Better In Segregated Environments?

Haregawoin Petersen…

Do our young children fair better in segregated or unsegregated environments?  I believe our children would do better in our own environment.  Familiarity is a good thing, community and racial support and continuity, I think is a sound foundation for our children.

Although those days of segregation are legally outlawed, there are some neighborhoods in the country that continue through sabotage in business, education and landownership, make it difficult for diversity to exist in America. What we must ask is does white American still want segregation? Gentrification in most communities around the country would agree.  I believe we should take care of our own.

I think diversity is important.  I think our children, if racial harmony is to be achieve, should be exposed to diversity in the world.  Segregated communities gives our children the ability to connect with others, work with others, learn to respect other races, with the hope that as they grow to adulthood, change in the way people see each other can be achieved. So yes, I think living in desegregated communities would be a good thing for our children.  We must escape the past of racial divide.

Sedzo Yannick…

I am from Africa so there isn’t very much diversity, as a matter fact there were no white people were I’m from.  Coming to America and the many different faces and cultures I think is a positive thing. It teaches us to respect the differences in the work environment, school environment and the community.  If the world is going to change towards more unity amongst the different cultures, we must live together in order for that to happen.

Kevin Roberson…

Each one, teach one. I believe segregation plays a positive role in cultural identity.  But desegregation helps us to understand the differences in people and in turn builds respects for other cultural and races. It is difficult though to trust that other races are going give our children the proper information and education as it is evident that some cultures struggle in teaching or raising Black children. So in perfect setting I do not see segregated communities as a problem as long as the respect for one another is there.

Tristian White…

Segregate our communities. Black communities need to learn to be self sufficient. Black businesses need the opportunity to grow and feed our communities. Gentrification as decimated our ability to be self sustaining as a people.  Negative propaganda and stereotype has made it difficult for other cultures and peoples to see our children as the strong kids that they are  I think segregation would allow us to strengthen children and show the world just how strong and intelligent they are.
