Benson Bruins 18, Heir (11U) 12 (OT)
Heir 11U and Benson would face each other one last time with an opportunity to advance to the championship game next week. Heir 11U were winners in their previous matchup and now Benson had an opportunity to avenge their loss.
Benson struck first with Kaicen Carter scoring the game’s first touchdown. Heir quarterback Cordae Norling threw a touchdown pass to Dash Jones to tie the game at 6. Defensively, Jones led the way with three interceptions on the day.
Going back and forth, Carter would push the Bruins ahead 12-6 before halftime as he scored his second touchdown of the game.
Heir’s Marquis Tovia would start the second half with a 65-yard touchdown run to tie the game up at 12. Tovia’s touchdown would be the last score until overtime.
In overtime, Benson quarterback Christian Clark would drop back and throw a 10-yard touchdown pass to Carter to give the Bruins a 18-12 lead.
With one last drive to try and tie the game again, Benson would record back-to-back sacks to put Heir into a do or die 4th down. On the fourth down play, Heir would throw downfield and the pass would be intercepted by Benson’s Jamari Jones to preserve the win and place the Bruins in next week’s championship game with an 18-12 win over Heir 11U.
Heir (12U) 37, CD Panthers 13
Entering the contest with a 7-0 record, Heir found themselves matched up against the CD Panthers in the playoffs. Seeded fourth and finishing 5-3 overall, CD looked to hand Heir their first loss of the year.
Heir’s defense was able to force turnovers despite Rashawn Tymony and Mykhai Phillips scoring touchdowns for the Panthers. Heir’s offense was able to score 30-plus points for the fifth time this season to advance to the championship game against Benson Bruins this Sunday.
Defensively, Heir’s Odin Kalalau recorded an interception. Offensively, Brennan Abbott threw touchdown passes to Jayce Halasz and Keh’ano Corpuz, while Briytan Bailey had a solid performance to help lead Heir.
