Heir 22, Benson Bruins 12
With a dominant 33-0 victory last week, the Heir 8U team improved their record to 7-1 heading into playoffs, where they would go toe-to-toe with the Benson Bruins who finished 5-2-1 overall.
Benson’s first possession would be short-lived due to a bad handoff that resulted in fumble recovery for Heir and just two plays later Heir would score on a 51-yard touchdown run. The Bruins would respond immediately on their next possession with Brayden Woods running for a 35-yard touchdown, but a missed extra point would allow Heir to hold a 7-6 lead.
The second quarter became a turnover fest by both teams. Heir recovered two fumbles and recorded a safety. Benson recovered a fumble and intercepted a pass at the three-yard line. With 22 seconds left before halftime, Heir would run a trick play and their running back Khye Sumlin found Tayshawn Stephens for a 10-yard touchdown pass to give them a 16-6 halftime lead.
Going into the third quarter, Heir looked to continue their rhythm offensively until Benson’s Brayden Woods recorded a strip fumble and returned it to the end zone to cut their deficit to 16-12.
Leading by four points, Heir found themselves in the endzone at the six-minute mark as Maddox Sua found Jack Pearsons for a 10-yard touchdown pass increasing their lead to 22-12. Following their score, Heir would force another fumble on defense to secure a 22-12 win against Benson.
Jr Huskies (8U) 41, Jr Huskies (7U) 12
The 8U Jr Huskies earned themselves the number one seed heading into playoffs finishing 7-1 overall, and they’d face their 7U Jr Huskies team with an opportunity to advance to the championship game against Heir.
Winning 18-0 last week the 8U team picked up where they left off. Tyree Bellinger would outrun defenders and find himself in the endzone scoring the game’s first touchdown, and from that moment the 8U team looked to dominate. But the 7U team had other plans as they came up with a big hit causing a fumble which they’d recover and return for a touchdown.
Despite the turnover, 8U’s Savion Brown would respond with a 40-yard touchdown run and Cariz Altheimer would catch a 20-yard touchdown pass to give the 8U Jr Huskies a 33–6 lead at halftime.
The 8U Jr Huskies would remain in control throughout the second half, as they allowed the 7U Huskies to just one touchdown in the second half. The 8U Jr Huskies would tack on two more touchdowns to stamp their ticket to the championship next week against Heir.
