The 26th Annual Youth and Law Forum will take place this Sat., Apr. 23 from 8:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. at First A.M.E. Church – 1522 14th Avenue in Seattle. The theme of this year’s event is “Empowering Youth Now.”

The Youth and Law Forum has a long history of providing area youth with practical information and advice about our justice system in a non-confrontational, non-judgmental environment. Each year, the Youth and Law Forum acts as a catalyst for an important and powerful community conversation between young people, parents, law enforcement officers, attorneys, judges, and community activists. This year will be no different. The Forum will include small group discussions on trending topics such as: appropriate responses to traffic and safety stops, the benefits and perils of social media, and accessing mental wellness resources.

In addition, those in attendance will hear a thought-provoking keynote address in the noon hour from U.S. District Court Judge Richard A. Jones. Nicholas Brown, General Counsel to Governor Jay Inslee, will deliver the morning keynote address.

The event will also feature live demonstrations on Crime Scene Investigations (CSI), arson and bomb squads, and robotic and police dogs teams from the King County Sheriff’s Office and the Seattle Police Department

Also speaking at the event is De’Vaughnn Williams, Miss Black Washington USA 2016. Williams, who was born and raised in Seattle, received her License for Massage Therapy in 2012, and she currently runs her own private practice in Federal Way, WA. She has been a youth mentor with the Life Enrichment Group (Seattle, WA) for the past 2 years, where she is now head of their Girl Power Program at South Shore K-8. Williams, a former foster child who overcame the odds, uses her story to inspire and motivate our youth to be their very best.

Youth in attendance will be able to explore different careers in the justice system, talk with justice system officials and as have an opportunity to monitor the antics of the Seattle Police Department robot. Youth who preregister at https://www.youthandlaw.com/contact.html/ and/or who remain through the session will be eligible for a host of very special gifts and incentives.

On-site registration and the continental breakfast begin promptly at 8:00 a.m.
