8th Annual Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Prayer Breakfast

The 8thAnnual Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Prayer Breakfast will kick off Seattle’s day-long MLK Day celebration on Mon., January 20. from 7:00am – 8:30am at The Sheraton Seattle.

The breakfast is a unique event that brings together community members from all sectors in business, church, and non-profit. The Breakfast serves to unite communities to celebrate the legacy of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., honor leaders who model his work, and promote justice and reconciliation with community partners in the greater Seattle community.

The Breakfast will feature Rev. Dr. Kelle Brown, Lead Pastor at Plymouth Congregational Church, as the keynote speaker.

The theme for this year’s Breakfast is “Sustaining the Dream”. Presented at the event, the Vision from the Mountaintop Awards will honor community, education and business leaders who have furthered justice, reconciliation and empowerment. Two Life Time Achievement Awards will be given to Claudel Warren and A.L. Hardy this year, and three outstanding community leaders will be given awards: Edith Elion, Rev. Dr. Margaret Spearmon, and Kurt and Craig Campbell.

The Breakfast commemorates and reestablishes the importance of keeping Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s dream alive – to remember that because of his legacy, Chief Carmen Best is able to become Seattle’s first African American woman Chief of Police in 2018, Raquel Montoya-Lewis to be appointed as the first Native American to sit on the Washington State Supreme Court, and the country being able to see the most diverse field of presidential candidates in history.
