How Do You Personally Embrace Dr. King’s Legacy?

Caty Caldwell…
For me Dr. King represents connected struggle and solidarity. And his legacy for me he was able to connect common struggles for people all across the world and he made us realize that the international oppressor is the capitalist, so for me, I recall, near the end of his life, Dr. King talked about Vietnam and the Vietnamese people and was able to connect that with the struggles of the Black man in America. For me that represents the importance of solidarity and the importance of connecting our struggles and fighting the common oppressor together. So in every thing that I do I need to connect my struggles with others and build solidarity in my movement work. As a socialist I work every to express that my freedom is based on your freedom.

Gerald Edwards…
So I feel about Martin luther Kings holiday and how I embrace it, I try to live it out each and every day not just on the holiday, but all the things that he was trying to teach and live, I try to live that way throughout the year and I try to look out for my fellow man and would like the same in return. But that’s the thing, I try to live his teachings each and every day not just the holiday, but all the time, especially in this day and time.

Katelyn Durst…
I guess what I get from Dr. Kings legacy is a just the opportunity to share my voice without fear in general to share my story, to speak out and share my story and also join the chorus of other stories like mine and having a platform when it come to social justice and quality of life for everyone especially young voices.

I believe I realize Martin Luther King’s dream by having the opportunity to and continuing to teach our young people natural methods of survival, but being able to not only dream about a better life, but to show them how they can create it and grow it through sustainable agriculture practices.

Preeyah Clark…
I believe I recognize his dream by continuing to live mine and striving for mine and realizing that we have more of purpose than anyone could ever tell us what our purpose is, if that makes sense? We can do anything and I can achieve anything because I am who I am.
