Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated® – Delta Upsilon Omega Chapter (DUO) and Dynamic Urban Opportunities Foundation (DUOF), the charitable giving arm of DUO, are excited to announce they will once again host their annual S.T.E.A.M. Youth and Parent Summit. The summit will take place on Sat., Apr. 28 from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm at Paccar Hall at the University of Washington.
This free event is designed to serve as a pathway and pipeline for college and career readiness for students in grades six through 12. Topics covered during the event will focus on driving awareness and interest in science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematic related subjects and careers.
With fewer American students excelling in math and science, and the continued need to expand arts education, DUO and DUOF are partnering to host the S.T.E.A.M. Youth and Parent Summit. Students in the sixth through twelfth grades are invited to attend and will have an opportunity to attend workshops, where they will interact with professionals currently working in representative S.T.E.A.M. fields and participate in hands-on learning.
Parents and mentors in attendance will have an opportunity to participate in a parallel program during which they will hear from college admissions officers, learn about educational funding, grant and scholarship opportunities, receive information about preparing for the transitions students experience as they move from middle school, to high school, and subsequently, to college, and more.
All participants will receive a continental breakfast, hot lunch and snacks throughout the day.
