AKA’s To Celebrate Legendary Service, A Time Of Remembrance

In commemoration of Alpha Kappa Alpha’s 106th Founders’ Day and the service legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, The Seattle Graduate Chapter — Delta Upsilon Omega (DUO) –of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority will host a week of celebrations and community service events from January 19 – 25, 2014. The week will recognize the many service contributions and accomplishments of their visionary Founders who established AKA and the incomparable Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

The week of remembrances begins on Sun., January 19 with worship service at Southside Church of Christ, 12200 – 59th Ave. S., in Seattle. Following the worship service, AKA members and their guests will attend a special Sunday Supper event to commemorate AKA’s Founders and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s accomplishments, by honoring several community partners for their outstanding service endeavors.

On January 20, friends, supporters, and family of AKA will join the Seattle community at the annual MLK Day March and Rally at Garfield Community Center. For the remainder of the week members will embark upon daily initiatives such as – healthy living habits, collecting donations for disadvantaged woman, participating volunteer activities that promote sound fiscal and economic activities and in AKA’s Emerging Young Leaders mentor program at the Matt Griffin YMCA.

“Each year, we pause and gather to honor our founding members, and their legacy of leadership. It is also a time to recommit ourselves to our mission to be of service to all mankind,” said DUO President, Phyllis Scott Lowe. “I am proud of AKA’s partnership with the Points of Light Foundation to host Sunday Suppers in select cities across the country.”
