Do You Believe The African American Community And The African Community Should Come Together Bridging The Gap?

Fred Byrdwell…

“Yes I do, Because I just think it’s a cultural think and you know, just because we look alike does not mean we act alike and there are a lot of things we can learn from each other, you know on both sides of that dynamic.  They’ve been through a lot of struggles and come from a different place, coming here we can help them with that transition, at the same time there is plenty I’m sure that we can learn and they can teach us. ‘Ive learned from friends that I know that are African, sure I think it would be a great thing.”

Nicole Jackson…

” I think that needs to happen, its always been a division, I went to FAMU a historically black college and you could always tell the African Americans from the Africans, cause we didn’t really talk to each other. I do  West African dance as a hobby so I meet a lot of people from the diaspora that way.  I travelled to almost every continent in the world and every place I see brown people, not just Africans, we all have similar struggles and if we all came together and realized our power and intelligence there’s no limit to what we can do.”

“Yes, I definitely think we do, I think a lot of other cultures especially in America that have a permanent foothold here can trace their genetic and historical lineage back to different countries and different eras of time and I think due to certain things especially slavery that its been made hard and it is hard for certain African Americans to genetically trace their lineage back and have a rich history that other cultures do, so I definitely think there needs to be a gap bridging of those two ethnic groups for sure.”

“Yes, I do think the African American communities and the African communities should come together and bridge that gap because I think in general unity is important and I think whenever god made all of us equal  he made all us he put all of us on the earth to work together, come together, love one another and fulfill his purpose.”

Jeromy Davis…

“Yes, I think it’s important for past and the present to blend together cause in a sense the black people who are over here are like a representation of the African people of the past who have progressed over the last 3 to 4 hundred years and African people who are over here now are like the second string and I believe it’s important for the two of them to come together because over here in this country, we are looked at in the same way and I believe it’s important to come together to create a better for future for both parties.”

Leonard Elion…

“Yes, I do think the African community and the African American community should come together to bridge the gap between those two nationalities or races. For several reasons, one is the fact that black community in Seattle is not nearly as big as some of the cities down south, there are some things that the black community can learn from the African community cultural wise that would make proud of ourselves and our heritage.  There’s a lot we can give to the African community here in Seattle and the United States.”
