The Black Data Processors Association Seattle (BDPA) is seeking high school students to compete in the local high school computer competition. If you are 9th – 12th grade, passionate about computers and/or would like to learn how to code, encourage your friends to gather a team of (5) students and apply.
As a part of the BDPA Seattle HSCC Computer Camp program, high school students will meet from March to June 2016 to develop expertise in creating web applications. The program curriculum focuses on the following web languages: HTML, CSS, SQL/MySQL Database, and PHP.
Participants will meet: Every 1st and 3rd Saturday from March – June 2016. Each high school will choose a team of (5) students to represent their school. Each team will select a Program Manager, Analyst, Developers, and they will work towards completion of the project with the help of BDPA instructors. Participating students will also learn public speaking skills, how to create and develop presentations, time management skills, how to set and achieve goals and working in a team environment.
Local students will compete On June 25, 2016. Each team will compete in Computer Jeopardy and Web Design. The top 4 to 5 students of the Seattle HSCC program will be selected to receive an all-expense paid trip to compete at the BDPA National Conference against other HSCC teams from chapters across the country.
National Competition
August 2016 at the National Conference in Atlanta, Georgia , students will be able to attend workshops and seminars covering topics related to personal and academic development, youth entrepreneurship and Information Technology. They will be able to participate in activities including – corporate sponsored luncheons and receptions, visits to educational places in the hosting city (i.e. museums), and networking events with IT professionals and students from around the country. On top of all this, they get to showcase their talents in the National Competition which consists of a timed computerized written exam, oral questions and the development of a web application per specifications.
Students will have the opportunity to win up to $2,500 in potential scholarships at the competition.
Student Eligibility
Students who will be entering the 9th through 12th grade during August or September or graduating from high school the year of the competition are eligible to participate. They must also be a member of BDPA and sponsored by the BDPA Seattle chapter.
