SEATTLE – The Black Future Co-op Fund is celebrating the legacy of Black giving while inspiring increased investment in Black communities during Black Philanthropy Month in August.
“We are kicking off a virtual panel series from noon-1:30 p.m. on Aug. 17 that will help us continue to move toward Black abundance by demystifying philanthropy with a panel discussion: Black Philanthropy is Community Care,” said Andrea Caupain Sanderson, one of four architects of the Black Future Co-op Fund.
From the Black church that has shaped consistent giving, to the ways Black communities rally to support neighbors’ needs, Black philanthropy nourishes community wealth and well-being. The virtual panel is an opportunity to learn from Black leaders about the myriad ways Black giving has bolstered Black communities and influenced the field of philanthropy.
This discussion will be live-streamed on the Black Future Co-op Fund’s Facebook and YouTube channel and will feature a not-to-be-missed collection of panelists, including:
- Doug Baldwin, former Seahawk and founder of Family First Community Center
- E. Lewis Rudd, president and co-founder, Ezell’s Famous Chicken
- Frankie Manning, executive board member of Mary Mahoney Professional Nurses Organization
- Mattie Mooney, co-founder of Trans Women of Color Solidarity Network
- Andrea Caupain Sanderson, architect of Black Future Co-op Fund and panel moderator

“The KD Hall Foundation believes Black Philanthropy Month is essential,” said KD Hall Foundation president and CEO KD Hall. “When funding comes from Black-led organizations, it makes the work that much sweeter. We are grateful for the architects of the Black Future Co-op Fund, who blessed up with an inaugural We See You grant. This flexible, unrestrictive funding uplifts our efforts to provide opportunities, mentorship, and sponsorship for young women and girls through their educational journey, enabling a lifelong path of leadership.”
