WIAA State 3A Boys Playoff Preview
#1 Mt. Spokane
vs. #8 Rainier Beach
The Vikings come into a matchup against Mt. Spokane (22-1) with an opportunity to snap the Wildcats’ 17-game win streak. Rainier Beach will lean on First-Team All-Metro guard Miles Gurske and Co-Defensive Player of The Year Ryan Mpouli.
#2 Garfield
vs. #7 Timberline
The 21-2 Garfield Bulldogs will face a Timberline team led by UNLV Commit Brooklyn Hicks. The Bulldogs are loaded with All-Metro selections Jaylin Stewart, Emmett Marquardt, Sherrell McCullum, and Legend Smiley.
#3 Eastside Catholic
vs. #6 Mountlake Terrace
Undefeated in the postseason thus far, Eastside Catholic has won the Metro League and Districts titles, earning themselves a three-seed as they’ll face an 18-5 Mountlake Terrace team who is riding a four-game win streak.
#4 Auburn
vs. #5 O’Dea
The reigning 3A champions will host O’Dea to begin this year’s tournament. The Trojans, led by sophomore guard Jaylen Petty and senior guard Tyrell Nichols, enter the opening round on a 13-game win streak. O’Dea, led by Metro League co-defensive player of the year Mason Williams and second-team all-metro selection Miles Goodman, look to get a win despite losing in the district championship to Eastside Catholic.
#11 West Seattle
vs. #14 North Thurston/#19 Everett
West Seattle’s up and down season has resulted in them earning a place in this year’s state tournament and with second-team all-metro guard Bo Gionet on their roster they will be difficult to beat.
