Bulldogs Light Up The Scoreboard With Second Half Rally Against Davis

By RayJaun Stelly, The Seattle Medium

Looking to capitalize and improve from their 42-2-win last week against Lake City, the Garfield Bulldogs looked to go 3-0 against their 4A opponent in Davis High School, Saturday afternoon at Memorial Stadium.

Despite a late start to the game because of weather delays, once the game began Garfield set the tone from opening kickoff.

Bulldogs’ defense was critical to their success forcing a total of six punts, and not allowing Davis to establish their offense whether they tried to pass or run the ball. The Garfield defensive line was able to get to the quarterback consistently, while their defensive backs and safeties didn’t allow any catches, and forced the games’ only safety.

Despite a few offensive miscues, once Garfield scored the games’ first touchdown, they’d go on to score all their points by rushing, except a deep pass to the endzone. Davis’ defense had no answer for Garfield’s running backs, each time they received a handoff it was either a big yardage gain or touchdown.

Davis managed to hold Garfield to 7 points in the first half because of their ability to force a fumble, bad snaps, and forcing three-and-outs. But once the second half started, Bulldogs’ received possession and scored the second play. From that point on, the Bulldogs would rally to score 37 points in the third quarter and 14 in the fourth, totaling 51 second half points.

Although the offensive and defensive chemistry clicked for the Bulldogs’, their special teams was just as important, throughout the whole game they did not allow a Davis return on punts or kick offs.

Clicking on all cylinders Garfield would go on to win 58-0 once the game clock hit all zero’s, as they improved to 3-0 on the season. The Bulldogs’ will face Ballard in their first Metro league game of the season next Friday at Memorial Stadium.
