Seattle Medium The National Black Law Students Association (NBLSA) Western Region Convention took place Feb. 17 – 20. Throughout the convention, hosted by Seattle University School of Law, Western Region students interacted with a series of guest speakers, participated in Moot Court competitions, Mock Trial competitions, workshops, community service, and networked with members of the legal community. During the awards banquet Sat. night, students and members of the community were addressed by Los Angeles Congresswoman Maxine Waters. Waters encouraged students, enlightened them on current matters in the legal and political communities, and urged them to make strives toward change, especially in the less fortunate communities and during the current administration. “Young lawyers, you can lead the effort to help the least of these. You will be able to confront what’s wrong with America. This world, this country, this community needs you,” Watters remarked. She continued, “We want to make a living of what we get. But, we hope to make a life of what we give.” The event was put on by NBLSA Western Region. Third-year Seattle University School of Law student Angela Rye is the Western Regional Director.
