Byrd Barr Place will host its inaugural Health & Wellness Fair on May 17 at the Rainier Community Center, offering a free, community-focused event designed to empower residents—particularly within the Black community—with the knowledge and resources needed to prioritize health and wellness.

The event will run from 12 to 4 p.m. at Rainier Community Center, located at 4600 38th Ave S, Seattle, WA 98118. It will feature live fitness demonstrations, nutrition education, CPR workshops, health screenings, and direct access to healthcare providers and wellness specialists.

Seattle native and former NBA star Nate Robinson, who recently underwent a kidney transplant, will attend as a special guest from 1 to 3 p.m. He will sign autographs and share his personal story about the importance of Black health and taking early, proactive steps toward wellness.

The fair will also be hosted by Chukundi “Kun Luv” Salisbury Sr., a longtime health advocate known for his #IWALKEDAWAYFROMDIABETES campaign. Salisbury, who has publicly shared his experience overcoming diabetes, will discuss how lifestyle changes and community support helped him regain his health.

“This event is not just about getting information—it’s about creating a space where the community can come together, learn, and take actionable steps toward improving their health,” said Dr. Angela Griffin, CEO of Byrd Barr Place. “We’re excited to offer a space where people can gain valuable resources, receive support, and take inspiration from the incredible stories shared at this event.”

In addition to health services and educational programming, attendees can enjoy free food, giveaways, and access to local vendors. The event also includes opportunities to explore emotional and social wellness in a welcoming, supportive environment.

Byrd Barr Place has partnered with local businesses and community organizations to help bring this initiative to life, working collectively to build a culture of health equity across Seattle.

The Health & Wellness Fair is free and open to all members of the public.
