In an exciting game that came down to the final possessions, this week’s game of the week featured a 10U matchup between the Puget Sound Lancers against the CD Panthers.

The game was a battle of defensive prowess and a few explosive offensive plays that resulted in scores. The first touchdown of the day came as the Panthers’ Zavion Watkins returned a fumble 45 yards for a touchdown. With the extra point attempt being no good, the Panthers lead 6-0 early in the first quarter.

The Lancers responded with a couple of big runs on their opening possession, one of which was a 30 yard run by Christopher Vaomu. Then after a few unsuccessful goal line plays, the Lancers’ A’Ron Jack punched it in from 2 yards out on a great effort to tie the game at 6-6.

After some tough defense by both teams, the Lancers offense broke through to score on a 20-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Jayce Fitzgerald to Xavius Chu-Eneliko to take the lead late in the third quarter.

But the CD Panthers would not go away. They needed their defense to come up with a huge play and they did, as Zavion Watkins intercepted the Lancers quarterback on a short pass to give his offense a chance to respond late in the game. Although the Panthers would come up empty on that possession, their defense would make another huge stop with a fumble recovery by Kaden Powers.

On their final drive of the game, the Panthers marched down the field, slowly but surely determined to score. Finally, the Panthers found paydirt as Zavion Watkins scored on a 10-yard game tying touchdown run to even the score at 12 a piece. The Panthers would seal the deal, as Powers connected with Oteka Mwambe on a successful extra point attempt, the CD Panthers on top.

Final score Puget Sound Lancers 12, CD Panthers 13
