Last week, the Seattle City Council selected and appointed Kirsten Harris-Talley to fill the vacancy for Council Position 8. The at-large position was left vacant in September when then-Councilmember Tim Burgess who was sworn in as Mayor of Seattle following the resignation of former mayor Ed Murray.

Harris-Talley brings more than fifteen years of experience in advocacy to her appointment on the City Council. Most recently she served as Program Director for Progress Alliance of Washington and as Program Manager for Cardea, a nonprofit offering training and development.
“I nominated Kirsten Harris-Talley because she brings a fresh voice to the budget process and a commitment towards social justice, education, and underrepresented communities,” said Council President Bruce Harrell.
“Over the course of many forums, public meetings and a week-long application process, Kirsten Harris-Talley has demonstrated a commitment to community and emphasized the importance of transparency in government,” said Councilmember Rob Johnson. “I am pleased with Council’s decision today and look forward to serving alongside Ms. Harris-Talley as a colleague.”
Harris-Talley participated in her first Full Council meeting as a seated Seattle City Councilmember on Monday, Oct. 9.
Harris-Talley will serve as Councilmember in Position 8 until King County certifies the 2017 general election results between Teresa Mosqueda and Jon Grant.
Harris-Talley lives in the Rainier Valley – Hillman City neighborhood with her husband and their two children.
