This Game of the Week was, as predicted, a massive defensive battle. Both the Benson Bruins and the Beacon Hill Cowboys played great and suffocating defense, stifling the opposition offenses. The defensive players were hard hitting, played great in coverage, and were all over the field in this one.
From the beginning of the game, it looked like it was going to be a battle the whole day. Neither offense could really get it going, but this wasn’t from lack of effort. The Bruins were grinding on offense, trying everything they could to break through the tough as nails Cowboy line. The Cowboys were out matched size wise, but their heart and effort put them in a great position to compete. The offense had good runs by Jaivieon Jackson and great catches by Jarris Taylor.
The Cowboy’s defense was working hard in this one. The secondary was keeping them in the game because the Bruins pass game was looking to cause trouble early and often. Jarris Taylor, Jeremih Watkins, Demetrios Gordon Jr, Zion Ulugalu and Jaivieon Jackson were a force on the Cowboys defense, with multiple important tackles and pass breakups.
Neither team was looking to lose this game, and you could tell that from start to finish. Then finally, we had a breakthrough. With the ball in the third quarter, Benson found paydirt. Trevon Mayfield scored the game’s only points with a huge rushing touchdown that saw his team take the lead. The impressive defense remained intact, and the Benson Bruins held on to the lead.
Bensons’ Coach Courtney had this to say after the win. “I think we played well. There were a couple areas where we kinda shot ourselves in the foot a little bit. We just gotta execute a little better, but overall, we’ll take the win. We’re getting a little bit more momentum on defense and our offense is coming along. Overall, I’ll take the win.”
Final Score: Benson Bruins 6, Beacon Hill Cowboys 0
