
Police cars were in high numbers at 8th Avenue Northwest and Northwest Market Street in Ballard after a police detective was shot. The area was blocked off and streets were closed for hours. In another shooting a 37-year-old man who shot two Puyallup officers in an hours-long standoff last week now faces charges.
The Seattle Department of Transportation tweeted that the east and westbound lanes of Northwest Market Street to inform drivers about the area of the shooting near 8th Avenue Northwest, a block from Gilman Playground. The police gave updates on the injured detective. He was taken to Harborview Medical Center where it was reported he was in critical condition.
Barricades were put up as SPD tweeted about what was happening in the area. They tweeted that officers and Kean County deputies were on scene with “barricaded subject in the 800 block Northwest 54th Street.” Another tweet went out informing the public that the area was secure.
In another shooting. Muelu Salanoa Jr. was identified as the 37-year-old man who shot two Puyallup officers in an hours-long standoff last Tuesday. This was an incident that started with domestic-violence. Salanoa shot two officers during the standoff. Salanoa showed up at the apartment of his ex-girlfriend in violation of a court order. The police said he locked himself inside her closet.
Salanoa Jr. was arrested Tuesday evening and has a prior record including felony and misdemeanor warrants out for his arrest. Officials say the man will be booked into jail for multiple counts of assault, violation of a domestic violence no-contact order and outstanding warrants.
