Do You Think Sound Transit Should Make AdditionalSafety Investments For The Light Rail System In South Seattle?

Abdikadir:
“I think they should change their safety protocols. They should add more signs and more security, some UTIs and stuff like that. Safety signage so a person knows that they have them up there. They should put up huge traffic lights and signs for the trains so when the train is oncoming, the lights light up to inform other incoming traffic.”
Shaniya:
“They definitely need to reevaluate, you know, how they do their safety things, especially because I understand that they are trying to create new ways of transit with the light rail extending it. I feel like if you’re going to do that, then you have to at least make sure that, you know, the safety stuff is up to par. I feel like at the end of the day, it’s going to create more financial problems for them if they’re having accidents. Just basic human safety. People shouldn’t have to be worried about if they’re going to be able to make it to work and make it home in one piece.”
NyRee:
“And my response is that, “Of course, they need to put in more safety measures. Anytime that there are injuries or a loss to human life, we need to consider where that is coming from and why, and make sure that we are addressing it directly. So, would raising the rails solve it? I don’t know. I would love to see the data to see exactly what the cause is, but there’s obviously a visibility issue where people in cars are having trouble seeing the rails and driving right over them and causing these injuries. So, yes, they definitely need to address it.”
Sherryl:
“It is unfortunate that it takes consequences to talk about safety policy. I am not a frequent light rail rider, but I am aware of some of the accidents that have occurred, and to avoid future hazards, light rail officials and safety experts need to come up with something if we are to avoid such tragedies.”
George:
“Given the current situation, there needs to be an assessment of their current safety policy because we shouldn’t have accidents like that happening anytime. It’s unacceptable.”
Roderick:
“I think there should be more safety precautions when it comes to the Southend Sound Transit area. Way too many accidents have been happening that we hear about on that side of town, but when we go to, like, farther north, not that many. So, I do believe that we should be taking more safety precautions.”
