“Our favorite family traditions are eating the turkey and spending time with all of the family.”

“My favorite Thanksgiving tradition is God. That’s my tradition, and then my family being happy, full, and having a place to eat, a roof over their head. My other favorite is that I’m from the South, with 15 children in my family, and I just learned how to make sweet potato pies on my own some years ago, so that’s one of my favorite traditions now.”

“My favorite Thanksgiving tradition is the food. I don’t know, it’s not really special, I suppose, but the food is my favorite part. The way everything is cooked, and all the sides—mac and cheese, candied yams—I look forward to it all year. But the sharing of the food and bringing families together to the table is actually very important.”

“I love having the family over and enjoying food together. Traditionally, families get smaller because we used to do big get-togethers, but not many Harrells are left. My parents are 94 and 88 and are still alive, so we do all the traditional food. We then sit at the dinner table and tell everyone what we are thankful for.”

“Ever since I retired with Safeway after 37 years, I just chill out. I don’t do a lot of cooking anymore because my kids are all grown up now and on the East Coast. I did just take my friends out to the commissary out in Tacoma, and they bought a lot of groceries, so I enjoy the holidays for giving.”

“My daughter cooks Thanksgiving and has always loved to make all of the different pies that we have.”
