Federal Way Hawks Soar Past Rise in Dominant 8U Shutout

From the opening kickoff, it was clear that the Federal Way Hawks came ready to make a statement. Fueled by explosive runs, a swarming defense, and disciplined execution across all four quarters, the Hawks rolled to a commanding 29–0 victory over Rise in a Washington Youth Football League 8U matchup on Saturday afternoon.

Federal Way scored in every quarter, shut down every Rise scoring attempt, and played fast, physical football from the first snap to the final whistle. Their performance reflected a well-prepared team capable of adjusting to game situations, responding to adversity, and executing both the fundamentals and the big moments. With the win, the Hawks further solidified their status as one of the top teams in the 8U division and sent a clear message to future opponents.

Head Coach Tex attributed the team’s success to consistent preparation and a culture built on accountability.
“Our team has been growing, and our coaches have been consistent week in and week out to get the players ready,” said Tex. “The kids are attacking the gaps like they’re supposed to, we’re hitting the holes like we need to, and it just all comes full circle as to why we win these types of games.”

The tone was set early. Despite a couple of penalties that wiped out long gains, the Hawks broke through with a strong ground attack that resulted in a long touchdown run to put them on the board. Although the extra point was missed, the early score energized the sideline and established momentum that would carry through the rest of the game.

Rise struggled to respond against a suffocating Federal Way defense. In the opening quarter alone, multiple attempts to move the ball resulted in lost yardage. Federal Way’s defenders penetrated the backfield with consistency, disrupting handoffs and forcing Rise runners to bounce outside—often right into waiting tacklers. Penalties on Rise further stalled their drives, allowing the Hawks to dominate time of possession.

The defense didn’t just stop plays—it created scoring opportunities. Late in the first quarter, Federal Way forced a safety, pushing their lead to 8–0 while regaining possession. On the ensuing free kick, the Hawks managed a solid return, and the offense continued to operate with rhythm and confidence. They added another touchdown early in the second quarter, this time with a successful extra point to stretch the lead to 15–0.

Rise briefly found a rhythm with a few short gains, including their best offensive play of the half. But the momentum didn’t last. A deep tackle for loss set them back again, and they were forced to punt after failing to convert on third and long. That defensive stop would set up another scoring opportunity for Federal Way, who took advantage with a short touchdown pass on a rollout play just before halftime. With the extra point, the Hawks entered the break up 22–0.

In the second half, Federal Way showed no signs of slowing down. After another three-and-out stop by the defense, their special teams unit delivered a highlight—fielding a punt in stride and returning it untouched for a long touchdown. The score pushed the margin to 29–0, effectively putting the game out of reach.

To their credit, Rise continued to battle and finally broke off a 36-yard run in the fourth quarter. However, the drive ended without points, and the Hawks’ defense returned to form with a series of key tackles to close out the game. On offense, Federal Way methodically ran out the clock with a combination of inside runs and short gains, showcasing not only their physicality but also their game management.

Though the scoreboard told the story of dominance, it was how the Hawks executed—staying focused despite penalties, responding to pressure situations, and making adjustments on the fly—that separated them. Their balanced approach and attention to detail were evident in every phase of the game.

With the win, the Federal Way Hawks remain undefeated and continue to build momentum heading into the final stretch of the season. Their combination of explosive offense and lockdown defense makes them a legitimate contender in the 8U division. Rise, while overmatched in this outing, showed moments of resilience and will look to build on those flashes as they regroup for their next challenge.
