Region X Small Business Administrator to Address CommunityUnited States Small Business Administration (SBA) Regional Administrator, Norman Proctor, will discuss “Entrepreneurship, the Path to the American Dream” at the meeting of the Community Coalition for Contracts and Jobs (CCCJ) on Tuesday May 17, 2005 at 6PM at CAMP.The SBA is a partner, advocate and counselor of small business. SBA’s mission is to maintain and strengthen the nation’s economy by aiding, counseling, assisting and protecting the interests of small businesses and by helping families and businesses recover from national disasters. SBA develops and supports entrepreneurs through a vast network of resource partners.Mr. Proctor was appointed Regional Administrator of Region X in April 2004. He oversees the SBA’s programs and services in Alaska, Idaho, Oregon and Washington. After graduating from Garfield High School in 1965, Mr. Proctor earned degrees in both business and law from the University of Washington. He began his professional career as a law clerk at the King County Superior Court and subsequently worked for twenty-three years at PACCAR where he held management positions of increasing responsibility, including serving as the company’s chief lobbyist responsible for all fifty state legislative activities. Mr. Proctor also served as the SBA Region X Advocate. He worked to identify regulatory and legislative issues of concern to small business entities and reached out to state legislators. He assisted the Chief Counsel for Advocacy in visits with key state, congressional and trade association leaders in Region XMr. Proctor is the latest in a series of speakers sponsored by CCCJ as part of its mission to obtain economic justice for African American businesses and workers by ensuring equitable participation in all phases of publicly and privately funded projects and business opportunities. CCCJ was established in 2004 as a coalition of community members, organizations, contractors, workers and clergy to help African Americans receive a fair share of the work paid for by our tax dollars. CCCJ meets first and third Tuesdays at 6PM at CAMP 722 18th Ave in Seattle.
