Garfield Falls To Blanchet In Season Finale

The Bulldogs took a 9-0 lead midway through the first quarter, as kicker Marcus Merkelbach connected on a 44-yard field goal. However, the Braves would rally to score 17-unanswered points to take control of the game and ultimately walk away with a victory in the season finale for both teams.

With 30 seconds left in the first quarter, Blanchet quarterback Henry Johnson connected with Griffin Knowles on a 45-yard touchdown pass to pull the Braves within two points, at 7-9. Johnson followed with a 1-yard run midway through the second quarter, as Blanchet took over the lead at 14-9.

In the third quarter, Blanchet kicker Kelan Hawk connected in a 35-yard field goal. And Garfield countered with a field goal of their own with 9 minutes left in the game, as they trailed 17-12.

With two minutes left in the game, Blanchet’s Colin Graves intercepted a Bulldog pass, giving the Braves the ball at Garfield’s 26 yard line. On the very next play, Blanchet running back Luke Gardner scored on a 26-yard touchdown run to give the Braves their final margin of victory, 24-12.
