In a game of pure offensive dominance, this week’s game of the week featured the CD Panthers visiting the Benson Bruins. This game was all Benson, as the first quarter opened up with a 50-yard touchdown run by Reylen Witherspoon. After the extra point, by Damari “Mar Mar” King, the Bruins went up 7 – 0. The first quarter came to an end with some stout defense by Benson, who were helped tremendously by the Panthers’ penalties and miscommunication on offense.
The second quarter opened up with more of the same for Benson. Their offense continued to march down the field and as they got to the CD 25-yard line, when King broke free for a touchdown run and a good extra point made it a 14-0 game. On the ensuing possession, the CD Panthers looked as if they were making positive gains on offense, but their lack of communication on play calling caused confusion. Benson took advantage of this as the Bruins’ Micah Meneese scored on their next possession. After their first bad extra point attempt of the game, Benson was up 20-0.
With some more suffocating defense, Benson forced the Panthers to turn the ball over on downs, putting the Bruins in scoring position again. After a few tough runs, King ran it in for another touchdown, this time from 4 yards out to end the half.
This game quickly became the Damari King show as he opened up the second half with a game breaking 40-yard touchdown run. The run was capped off with an extra point that put the score at 33-0 Benson. King sealed the deal for the Benson Bruins with a game ending 40-yard touchdown run – as he broke several tackles and juked several defenders on his way to the end zone.
After the game, the Bruins coach stated that he “loves the competition” with the Panthers and that he always likes to “make sure the kids are having fun.”
Final Score: Benson Bruins 40, CD Panthers 0.
