Apostle Bishop Edwin Clarence Peete transition from this life on March 5, 2023, peacefully at St. Joseph Medical Center in Tacoma, Washington surrounded by his loving family.
Bishop Peete was born on May 2, 1948, in Baltimore, Maryland. He was the son of the late Ruth (Butts) and Elder Eddie Peete, Jr. He accepted Christ at the age of nine under the leadership of his grandparents, the late Bishop Robert and Sarah (Handshaw) Butts of the Apostolic Faith Church of God and became an active member of the church.
Bishop Peete was ordained in Baltimore, MD under the auspices of Dr. Bishop Dennis M. Golphin and in in 1981 founded God’s People in Action Ministries, a ministry of “helps” to the community, churches, and outreaches. In 1996, he was consecrated to the bishopric as Chief Apostle.
As a lifelong learner, he earned a Doctor of Divinity from A.B. Campbell Bible Institute, San Diego, California and was a student of intensive studies at Harvard and Yale Universities under the Graduate School of Episcopal Studies, Columbus, OH, Paul S. Morton, Sr., presiding.
Bishop Peete was sought after as a pastor of all pastors. He has been a listening ear to many leaders preaching and teaching the Gospel throughout the United States and the world.
He is survived by five children, Alicia, Doretha, Robert, Vicki, and Lanell and 16 grandchildren; three sisters Naomi Peete – Baltimore, MD; Elaine Glover (Arthur) – Baltimore, MD; Rona Weaver (Jeffrey) – York, PA and a host of grand and great grandchildren, nephews and nieces. He is also survived by his special friend, Evangelist Marcena Bates – Tacoma, Washington.
