Gov. Jay Inslee announced the appointment of Jason Poydras to the King County Superior Court. He will replace Judge Susan Craighead who recently retired.
Poydras has served as a King County District Court judge since 2017; and, since May 2020, he has been the court’s South Division Presiding judge. Previously, he worked as an administrative law judge for the Washington Department of Licensing and Washington State Office of Administrative Hearings. Before becoming a judge, Poydras was a deputy prosecuting attorney in Pierce County and a public defender in King County.
Poydras is an active in the community, serving as an advisory board member for the Judicial Institute since 2017 and previously as a former commissioner on the Seattle Human Rights Commission.
“As the King County Superior Court digs out from the backlog of cases caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, it needs talented judges with trial experience who can step in ready to take on these cases on day one,” said Inslee. “I know that Judge Poydras has the skills and experience to flourish in this role.”
Poydras earned his bachelor’s degree from Xavier University of Louisiana and his law degree at Seattle University.
