There was an electric game this week for our Little League Game of the Week. The red-hot Jr. Huskies looked to continue their winning ways against the always dangerous Benson Bruins in a 7U showdown. This game was meant to be a slugfest but ended up as a one-sided heavyweight fight.
The Jr. Huskies started out strong, coming out with Savion Brown throwing the ball to Tyree Bellinger for a 40-yard touchdown. From then on, the Jr. Huskies were unstoppable. Tyree Bellinger had another 40-yard touchdown, this time running the ball, and the Huskies were quickly up 14-0. Savion Brown was clinical in the back field with a 30-yard touchdown run to start of the second quarter followed shortly by a 30-yard touchdown pass to Marvelous Green.
With the Jr. Huskies being up 29 to zero at this point, the second half started with a running clock. But that didn’t slow that vicious Husky offense down at all. In fact, the third quarter started off with a kickoff return for a touchdown by Savion Brown. The kid was involved in everything and had a massive impact on his teams’ success.
Jerrelle Hernandez Jr. then came into the game. He got the ball in the back field, then proceeded to make one of the most magnificent and creative runs a Little League player could have made. This 40-yard run, full of cutbacks and stutter steps, was the nail in the coffin. A pick six at the end of the game by the incredibly disciplined Jr. Huskies defense saw the game end as a huge victory for the Huskies and a game to learn from for the Bruins.
Coach Jamal of the Jr. Huskies had this to say after the big win. “We just got to continue to get better. I think right now we’re playing against ourselves; we’re not worried about what other teams are doing. We’re just trying to get better on our end. We’re ready to line it up with anybody across the state at any time.”
