The KD Hall Foundation will host their Girls on the Rise 2.0 conference on Sat., June 8 at the Historic Northwest African American Museum as they focus on uplifting girls and young women of color into leadership positions.
This free event will provide 100 girls of color with an uplifting experience to prepare them for life, leadership opportunities, and to provide the tools to develop the confidence and composure to lead personally and professionally. Girls on the Rise 2.0 is designed to tackle common potential issues that girls and young women age 13 – 21 experience as they travel through life’s journey. This year, participants will experience a powerful keynote speech from two leading women of Washington State: Andrea Herrera (Seattle Police Department Field Training Coordinator) and Debra Sutey (Seattle Fire Department Battalion Chief).
The KD Hall Foundation has built a strong reputation in the Pacific Northwest for inspiring and empowering women and girls through their journey in leadership and making strategic connections with the workforce. Over the last four years KD Hall has partnered with over 60 college students, over 100 employers, and over 1000 women and male allies via conferences, programs, volunteering, and on-line workshops, with a strong focus on encouraging partnerships, networking, and the education of our future leaders.
Girls on the Rise 2.0 will consist of four workshops, focusing on personal and professional development, where students will have connected learning experiences and interact with their peers and mentor. Participants will register for and participate in one of the following workshops:
Public Speaking, Social Media, Negotiation, and Finances. Every workshop will provide an interactive opportunity for participants to learn and speak within groups for optimal confidence building when it comes to planning for their education and/or career path.

The best part is we are reaching out to our entire community to participate in this worthwhile endeavor. Everyone role is important at this event.”
Additionally, The KD Hall Foundation is looking for 50 mentors/coaches who will hold one-on-one conversations about career, college preparedness, and cultivating leadership with the participants. The students will have opportunities to meet one-on-one with various mentors and be encouraged to visit all booths of featured employers, sponsors, and programs. Students will be able to sign up with job providers where they can learn about current and future employment opportunities. Interview coaches will challenge student’s critical and creative thinking ability as well as on the spot decision making.
