King County Elections is opening 10 more permanent drop boxes in time for the August 1 Primary Election. The new drop boxes are part of the department’s ongoing effort to increase voter access across King County. Several of the new ballot drop-off locations are getting a drop box for the first time, including the Central District in Seattle, Fall City, Kenmore, Mercer Island, Newcastle and Tukwila.
King County Elections recently mailed ballots to nearly 1.3 million registered voters for the August Primary Election. This Primary Election includes candidates for state and local offices as well as four ballot measures.
“This is an important local election year in King County, with a record number of people running for office,” said Julie Wise, Director of King County Elections. “In a Primary, only the top two candidates in a race advance to the General Election. This is your opportunity to choose the candidates you want to see move forward.”
Ballots can be returned through the US Postal Service, which requires a first class stamp, or they may be returned to any of the 53 ballot drop boxes open for this election. Ballots must be postmarked by August 1 or returned to a ballot drop box by 8 p.m. on Election Day.
