The Garfield Lady Bulldogs made it clear they were not supposed to be in the loser out game with a dominant performance against the Prairie Falcons in their WIAA Girls 3A regional game last Saturday at Sammamish High School.
Right out of the gate, the Bulldogs showed that they were the better team going on 12-0 run and building a 13-point lead by the end of the first quarter. The Falcons struggled early, as they had no answer for the Bulldogs’ full court pressure. Prairie looked a little shook as they missed the few opportunities that they did have when getting through the Bulldogs’ aggressive and attacking defense. Garfield’s Meghan Fiso had 10 first quarter points as the Bulldogs led 23-10 at the end of the quarter.
The Bulldogs kept their foot on the pedal in the second quarter, as they unleashed another offensive attack going on a 13-0 run highlighted by a tough layup through contact by Dalayah Daniels. Prairie continued to fall victim to the Bulldogs suffocating defense as they could only manage a three-point basket during the quarter, as Garfield dominated the quarter and headed into halftime with a 49-13 lead.
Garfield’s dominance continued in the third quarter as they forced many steals that led to transition basket for the Bulldogs. The Falcons could not keep up with the furious pace set by the Bulldogs as you could see the exhaustion on the face of the players. The one-sided game continued even when Garfield’s reserves got in the game, making it clear that the Bulldogs did not deserve to be in this loser out game. At the end of three quarters the Bulldogs held a commanding 60-19 lead.
The Falcons continued to struggle in the fourth quarter, as the Lady Bulldogs were unstoppable and continued to pour in points. The Bulldogs went on to posted a 78-29 victory over the Falcons, and sent a clear message that they are ready to go to the Tacoma dome this week and compete for a state title.
Fiso led all scorers with 21 points, while Sahcari Davis added 16 points of her own to lead the Bulldogs.
With the win, Garfield moves on to play Kennewick, who lost to Eastside Catholic in the regional round 80-56, in a loser out game this Weds., Mar. 4 at 9:00 p.m. in the Tacoma Dome.
