Letter Carriers Stamp Out Hunger With Annual Food Drive

Letter Carriers will help stock the shelves of food banks in Pierce County with their annual “Stamp Out Hunger” food drive on Saturday, May 14.

This national event is a great opportunity for residents and businesses to join together to see that no person goes hungry in our community. Pierce County letter carriers partner with Emergency Food Network (EFN) and area food banks to collect more than 300,000 pounds of food during the Letter Carriers’ Food Drive every year.

Each address in the county will receive a bag, but there is no limit to the amount of bags residents can set out by their mailbox. Postal carriers and volunteers will drive through neighborhoods to pick up the donations. Suggested non-perishable items include peanut butter, canned soups and chili, canned fruits and vegetables, canned meats, and other items high in nutritional value.

Food Drives play an important role in helping meet the needs of our hungry Pierce County neighbors. EFN relies on donations from food drives, individuals, as well as various companies and organizations to help get food out to community members in need. Once received, EFN distributes the food to the 70 food banks, meal sites, and shelters that it serves.

Residents can also help by volunteering the day of the food drive. If you are interested in volunteering, contact volunteer@efoodnet.org or (253) 584-1040.
