The Puget Sound Lancers (2-0) took their undefeated record on the road Saturday, in a match up with last years’ champions the Beacon Hill Cowboys. The Lancers led by quarterback Jabezz Tinae, who in the first quarter, ran through and around the cowboys’ defense. Tinae accounted for four touchdowns and 118 yards rushing. He also passed for one more touchdown, on a 25-yard pass to Jaques Charles, who had a great all around performance.
The Cowboys offense was somewhat stagnant in the first half as they were unable to generate and sustain drives, but in the second quarter with quarterback Quinten Jordan, Jr. at the helm the Cowboys offense came alive as they drove the ball into scoring position, with a big time run from Jordan, a 62-yard touchdown. Jordan also showed how special he is, looking like a one man wrecking crew, taking what seemed to be short gains and turning them it into a big plays, as he broke a tackle to the outside for a 50-yard score.
The Lancer’s defense did not let up its’ pursuit on the Cowboys. Malakai Asoau, who had seven bone crushing tackles, led the way as the Lancers kept the Cowboys’ offense to minimal yardage. As the game progressed into the second half, Puget Sound kept pounding the ball with F.B. Asoua, who finished the game with 63 yards on 5 carries. Trying to regain confidence the Cowboys’ offense found themselves in Lancer territory.
Running back Danali Dukes and fullback Big Josh Conley really locked in. Conley had a big run for 30 yards and Dukes had two runs up the middle before receiving a 20-yard pass to get the boys in the red zone with 2:30 left in the fourth quarter. However the Cowboys were denied from coming away with any points, as the Lancers got an interception by one of the fastest players on the field in Marcus McCraney, ending Beacon Hill’s hopes with a 78- yard pick six to put the game out reach. Final score Puget Sound 43 Beacon Hill 14.
