Seattle Man Arrested for Assault With Cane-Sword in Chinatown-International District

Seattle Police have arrested a 41-year-old man accused of assaulting another individual with a cane-sword. The incident occurred on Wednesday, leaving a 51-year-old man with a facial laceration after being attacked with a concealed blade during a confrontation in the Chinatown-International District (CID).

The altercation took place in the 400 block of Eighth Avenue South. Officers responded to reports of a stabbing and found the victim with a serious cut to his lower jaw. First responders provided immediate assistance before the victim was transported to Harborview Medical Center, where he is currently in stable but serious condition. Investigators have determined that the weapon used in the assault was a two-foot blade cleverly hidden within a cane.

The suspect, identified as Terrell Jones Fisher, allegedly struck the victim after an argument escalated into violence. After the attack, Fisher fled the scene on a BMX bike that had a flat tire but was swiftly apprehended at Hing Hay Park. Police recovered the weapon, although it remains unclear whether it was abandoned at the scene or taken with Fisher during his escape.

Fisher appeared in court on Tuesday, where a judge established probable cause for charges against him. He has a criminal history that includes prior convictions for assault and residential burglary, prompting prosecutors to express concerns about his potential threat to public safety. He is currently being held on $100,000 bail and has another pending assault case in Seattle Municipal Court.

This incident has raised alarms about safety in the CID, an area already facing challenges related to violent crime, drug activity, mental health issues, and the resale of stolen goods. In response, the Seattle Police Department has increased patrols in the neighborhood and occasionally deployed SWAT teams to address crime hotspots, particularly around the intersection of 12th Avenue and South Jackson Street.
