Martye Kendrick, a native of Seattle, was recently named chief executive officer and executive director of the Harris County Sports & Convention Corporation (HCSCC). With a distinguished career in public finance, real estate, and sports venue management, Kendrick now leads the organization responsible for overseeing NRG Park, Houston’s iconic 350-acre sports and entertainment complex.
“It’s critical that we appointed a CEO who can embrace our bold vision for the future of NRG Park, continue to build on our momentum, and create significant and sustainable value for our stakeholders and the public,” said Bishop James Dixon, Chairman of the Board for HCSCC. “I’m confident that Martye’s credentials, professional experience, demonstrated leadership, and track record for results will position NRG Park for success — today and in the future.”
NRG Park, which includes NRG Stadium, NRG Center, NRG Arena, and the iconic NRG Astrodome, hosts more than 500 events annually, attracting over 5.5 million visitors. The complex serves as the home of the Houston Texans and the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo™ and is set to play a key role in the 2026 FIFA World Cup, with NRG Stadium scheduled to host seven matches.
Kendrick, a seasoned attorney with over 15 years of experience, brings a deep understanding of tax-exempt bond financing and commercial real estate matters. Before her appointment, she served as of counsel at the global law firm Greenberg Traurig, LLP, where she advised public entities on bond financing and real estate transactions. She has also been a board member of the Harris County – Houston Sports Authority since 2018, providing her with firsthand knowledge of the financial and operational requirements of maintaining world-class sports venues.
“I’m honored to lead the talented HCSCC team as we collaborate with our tenants and the community to ensure NRG Park remains a world-class destination for generations to come,” Kendrick said. “It’s more than a venue — it’s a cornerstone in our community that unites people from across Houston and around the world through our unique programming, including the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup.”
Kendrick will oversee the management, operations, and strategic development of the NRG Park complex while coordinating closely with its tenants to drive innovation and ensure long-term success. HCSCC is currently working with Harris County officials and industry experts to enhance NRG Park’s facilities and maintain its status as a vital cultural and economic hub.
Kendrick attended Trinity College, earning a Bachelor of Arts with honors. She went on to receive her Juris Doctor from Howard University School of Law and a Master of Laws in Taxation from the University of Denver Sturm College of Law. She credits her Pacific Northwest upbringing for fostering her strong work ethic and commitment to community service, values that have guided her throughout her career.
Kendrick’s contributions have earned her numerous accolades, including being named one of Houston’s 50 Most Influential Women by Houston Woman Magazine and receiving the 2023 “Women Who Mean Business” award from The Houston Business Journal.
Beyond her professional endeavors, Kendrick is a dedicated cellist, avid reader, and yoga enthusiast. Despite her years in Texas, she remains deeply connected to her Seattle roots, which she says helped shape her perspective on the importance of community spaces.
As Kendrick assumes her new role, she is eager to build on NRG Park’s legacy of innovation and inclusivity.
“NRG Park is more than a collection of buildings; it’s a gathering place where memories are made, milestones are celebrated, and communities come together. I’m excited to lead HCSCC as we work to ensure this special place continues to inspire and connect people from all walks of life.”
