Mary Mahoney Professional Nurses Organization To Award 11 Nursing Scholarships

Mary Mahoney Professional Nursing Organization (MMPNO) recently announced that eleven African American nursing students have been selected to be awarded scholarships at the 66th Annual Nursing Scholarship Reception on Sat., April 18 at the First African Methodist Episcopal Church (FAME) at 1522 – 14th Avenue in Seattle from 1:00 to 3:00 pm.

The eleven awardees, who are all enrolled in programs in the Puget Sound area that lead to licensing as registered nurses or other professional nursing credentials, are focused on enhancing their education to help serve vulnerable and underserved populations and address health disparities in our community.

The scholarship recipients are:

Hoda Abdiraham – Abdiraham is the mother of two children, working two jobs and is a full time nursing student at Seattle University.

Patricia Awah – Awah is working on a nursing degree at Seattle University.

Ebony Beauchamp – Beauchamp is enrolled in the nursing program at Shoreline Community College.

Naomi Belayneh – Belayneh is enrolled in the University of Washington’s Doctor of Nursing Practice Program.  She is a certified Geriatric Nurse Practitioner.

Destiny Delgadillo – Delgadillo is pursuing a master’s degree in nursing at Pacific Lutheran University.

Hassan Elmi – Elmi is the father of four children and is on the Dean’s list as he pursues a nursing degree from Seattle University.

Soda Fall – Fall is enrolled in the nursing program at Seattle University.

Adrianna Griffin – Griffin is from a small town in Alaska with a 1% African American population but has been inspired by strong Black women in her life.  She is a junior in the nursing program at Seattle University.

Lavar Robinson – Robinson is pursuing a BS degree in nursing at Bellevue College, after receiving an ADN degree there, a few years ago.

Elena Smith – Smith, a Rainier Scholar, is pursuing a nursing degree at Seattle University.

Amal A. Yusuf  – Yusuf is a mother of four children and pursuing a BS degree in nursing at Seattle University.
