Seventeen-year-old Mari-Yona Shannon recently returned to her hometown of Seattle to compete in the Washington State Open, her first adult tennis tournament. Shannon, who moved with her family to Ohio in 2021 during the COVID-19 pandemic and following the death of her mother, first picked up a tennis racket at age 4 and has been competing ever since.
