Mount Zion Baptist Church will welcome renowned scholar, author and ordained minister Dr. Michael Eric Dyson as guest speaker during its 10 a.m. worship service this Sunday, Oct. 11.

Dyson’s appearance comes as Mount Zion focuses on “Consecration” throughout October, encouraging members to set themselves apart, renew their commitment and dedicate their lives to God.

Dyson is an ordained minister, renowned scholar and one of the nation’s most respected voices on faith, culture and justice. He is a distinguished university professor at Vanderbilt University, with appointments in African American and Diaspora Studies and the Divinity School’s ethics and society program, and serves as an NEH Centennial Chair.

A Detroit native, Dyson earned a doctorate in religion from Princeton University. He has written more than 25 books, seven of which were New York Times bestsellers, and his honors include the American Book Award and multiple NAACP Image Awards. He is also known as a gifted preacher who has spoken to audiences across the country and around the world.
