Gray Conference
CD Panthers 22
5 Star 12
The Panthers Squared off against the 5 Star Cougars on Sunday at Highline stadium. The Cougars, who were ranked #5 in the State were clearly overmatched. From the first series the Panther defense was physical and disruptive. MLB/RB J’Andre “Problem” Castillo lived up to his nickname with 4 crushing tackles for loss, while he chased the Cougar rushers all over the field. Kyle Betchel set the edge with 5 tackles for loss, 2 sacks while he corralled the Cougars’ running backs in the backfield. Geno Smith (4 Tackles) and Jaden Steward (2 TFLs) also joined in the defensive effort.
Offensively the Panthers were strong, disciplined, and deliberate as they pounded Star’s defense. Cayne Rodriquez led the team in rushing with 5 carries for 92 yards and one touchdown just prior to the second half. Top-ranked kicker Carter Sealy-Pool went 2 for 3 on extra points, reinforcing his ranking in the 8U Division and adding another dimension to the Panther offense. Isaiah Simanton, Carson Hasseltine, Nelson Tatafu, Psalm Moi, and Luke Blue collectively on the offensive line were dominant and patient, as they opened the door for J’Andre Castillo’s punishing runs. When the team needed some spark on offense, Ja’Ray Mc’Knight stepped up to the challenge and with one backbreaking carry that gouged the Cougars for 35 yards and put the Panthers in scoring position. That drive was capped off by Dash Jones, who put the team on his back while he rushed for an 8-yard touchdown and later caught another 13 yard touchdown pass from quarterback Rashawn Tymony.
The 22-12 victory is just another step towards the championship for the Panthers, who face the top-ranked Ravens on Saturday.
Rainier Ravens 37
Auburn Panthers 0
The Ravens were dominant on both sides of the field as they remained undefeated with a shutout victory over the Panthers.
Green Conference
Benson Bruins 32
Beacon Hill Cowboys 6
The Bruins biggest hurdle of the game came two days before game day when they learned they would begin their playoff run without their starting quarterback, Jamari Jones. The players came together with one focus – to win this game for their teammate. From the moment they stepped on the field they played inspired, disciplined football. Bernard Bourgeois, Jr. stepped in at quarterback and ran the offense beautifully. Duave’ Hunter had a monster game on both sides of the field including an interception and two touchdowns. The tough Bruins defense was solid as always making every play difficult for the Cowboys. Beacon Hill certainly did not roll over, and played tough all game despite playing with just one backup. Joe Davis scored the lone touchdown for the Cowboys.
Tacoma Spartans 32
Puget Sound Lancers 13
The Spartans posted an impressive victory over the Lancers to put them one step closer to the championship.
