Brenda Rebecca Winters McCoy was born May 15, 1948 in Galveston, Texas into the family of Johnnie and Samantha Winters. Brenda attended Carver Elementary and Goliad in Galveston, until the family moved to LaMarque, TX where she attended Lincoln High School.
Brenda was a great typist and she enjoyed being a cheerleader. After she graduated from Lincoln High School in 1966, she went to Business school in Nashville, Tennessee to pursue her career as a keypunch operator. After graduating, her mother thought it best for her to move to Seattle, WA to become a keypunch operator. She worked at Lockheed Shipyard and later with the City of Seattle in several departments using her data entry skills. While pursuing her career as a keypunch operator, she met Ken McCoy. They married November 1, 1968 until her passing on March 29, 2021. They truly trusted God through this commitment as they remained faithfully together for over 50 years.
Brenda had a love for her biological family and spiritual family. She was baptized as a member of the church of Christ as a teenager and remained faithful until her health no longer allowed her to attend services. She loved to dress and entertain like no other. It must have been the Texas in her, because all her meals included lots of foods and desserts. She always wanted to make sure people felt welcomed in her home and their stomachs were full. At one point in life, she decided she wanted to take an online class, so she did, and she was incredibly happy when she obtained her degree in Interior Decorating.
Brenda loved her husband, and they took many trips together around the country. They would drive to Texas to be with her family and surely Ken did most of the driving if not all of it, but she so enjoyed taking road trips sitting in the passenger seat. Another accomplishment was becoming a mother. She loved all of her children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and siblings. She loved her church family and church sisters she had fun with at various Women events locally and out of town.
Brenda departed this life at Swedish Medical Center under the care of their hospice team after a brief illness. She is preceded in death by her parents, Johnnie and Samantha Winters, her brother, John Lane Winters (Mattie), and her sisters Doris Winters Milburn (Clary) and Alfreda; her mother-in-law Eloise McCoy and sister-in-law, Louise Darby; Her paternal grandparents Nelson/Gertrude Winters and maternal grandparents LA/ Orin Lilly and all their children.
Her family left to cherish her memories forever in their hearts are: Husband, Ken; Children: Daughters, Stacy McCoy and Rekeda Rountree (Thomas) and her Son Jovan McCoy (Terri); Grandchildren: Pierre, Deshawn, Kamren, Nia, Hana, Riley, Thomas Jr., Ria and Theodore; Sister, Cynthia Winters; Brothers Horace and Joseph Winters; Nieces Rosetta, Angela, Charlotte, Rosiland, Takaye and Cicely; Nephews Wayne, Dwayne, Dexter and Carlos; Her father in-law Grover C.
