Born May 8, 1938, in Anniston, Alabama, Charles Edward Jackson (Sam) was the sixth of sixteen children to the union of Olga Mae and Joseph Jackson. Prior to relocating to Seattle, WA in 1955 with his parents and siblings, Sam attended Cobb Avenue High School.
On July 25, 1959, Sam married the love of his life, Carolyn Melete and together had five children—Sandra, Latrice, Christina, Jean-Paul, and Katrina.
Finding his calling for public service in 1976, Sam worked as a King County Metro transit operator for the next 27 years. There, he earned numerous safe driver and driver of the month awards.
Sam’s love of sports easily translated to his greatest passion—coaching and mentoring youth in his community. From 1959 – 1995, he coached championship teams at Rainier and CAYA before co-founding the CD Panthers in 1995.
Recognized for his extraordinary service to the community, Sam received notable accolades from B.U.I.L.D 206, ROOTS, Africatown, and Seattle Department of Parks and Recreation.
Sam was preceded in death by his wife Carolyn and daughter Latrice Jackson; however, his legacy will live on through his daughters Sandra Jackson-Banks (Terry), Christina Delgardo, Katrina Beckwith (Jeremy), and son Jean-Paul Jackson; 15 grandchildren; and 27 great grandchildren.
