Command Sargent Major F. L. Floyd was born in Philadelphia, Mississippi the youngest of three children. He was a devoted son to John Henry Floyd and Tallitha Greer Floyd.
Sargent Floyd was raised in Eupora, Mississippi until his 18th birthday. He enlisted in the United States Army and served in World War II, the Korean War and the Vietnam Conflict. He served 30 years in the Army before retiring and finding employment with the City of Seattle where he worked for the next 24 years.
Sargent Floyd met his life-long partner of 55 years, T. Marie Floyd and spent the rest of his life in a loving environment of guidance and Christianity raising children, nurturing grandchildren and great grandchildren. Sargent Floyd joined First African Methodist Episcopal Church in 1971 and established himself as an active church member. He served as an usher, a Church Steward, was a member of both the Lay Organization and the Richard Allen Brotherhood; he took pride in mentoring the young for church leadership. His long-term membership of the Young Men Christian Association’s Wiseman Group was yet one more demonstration of his strong leadership and devotion.
Sargent Floyd transitioned peacefully on Thurs., Jan. 26, 2017 at his home he so loved. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Arvin Hilliard, Brother E. L. Floyd, and daughter Blenda Barfield Roberson.
Sargent Floyd leaves to cherish his beloved memoirs: loving and devoted wife T. Marie Floyd; children: David and Tanya; grandchildren: Tamilyn, Tremane, Keuna, Zerin (Maryruth), Kahlana (Dwayne) of New York, Isaac (Tiffany), Katrice, Mariah; great-grandchildren: Travon, Cherakiz, Devin, Isaac, Jr., Dylan; nieces and nephews: Ruth, Faye (Sherman), Christopher, Ray of Eupora, Mississippi, Robert (Doris) of Wichita, Kansas, Robert, Cynthia of Minneapolis, Minnesota, James (Reba), Dallas, Texas.
Sargent Floyd genuinely touched the lives of many who will surely miss his earthly presence.
Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. this Fri., Feb. 3 at 11:00 a.m. at First African Methodist Episcopal Church – 1522—14th Avenue in Seattle, WA. Viewing will be from 9:00 a.m. —10:55 a.m.
