Freddie Louise Moore Curry August 7, 1934 - August 31, 2016
Freddie Louise Moore Curry
August 7, 1934 – August 31, 2016

Freddie Louise Moore Curry was born to the union of Sammy Moore and Hattie Bates Moore on August 7, 1934. Freddie was the middle daughter of three beautiful girls. She was born in Phoenix, Arizona. Her love of God began at an early age and she joined First Institutional Baptist Church. She graduated from Carver High School, a segregated school that served African-American students until schools were integrated in 1954. The school was declared a historical site and in 1991 was listed in the National Register of Historic Places. It is currently home to the George Washington Carver Museum and Cultural Center.

At age 18, Freddie moved to Los Angeles, California to attend college. There she met and married her husband, Luene B. Curry. Freddie was employed by the Internal Revenue Service. The couple lived in Los Angeles until 1970 before relocating to Seattle, Washington. She maintained her employment with the IRS, earning several promotions, while serving as the EEO Counselor for the black employment Program, and receiving numerous awards. She retired from the IRS after 46 years of stellar service.

Freddie was a founding member of Damascus Baptist Church in Seattle and remained a faithful and committed member until her passing. She served as a dedicated Trustee; regularly attended Bible Study and acted as the official registrar for Vacation Bible School. She volunteered at Miss Lily’s, the church’s clothing store for people living in homeless shelters. She donated more than her share of fashion and accessories to the store.

Everyone who knows Freddie, knows what a fabulous dresser she was. She was a fashion trendsetter. She loved shopping and never left home without being completely outfitted from head-to-toe. Her signature look was classic, elegant and perfectly coordinated. She was often imitated, though never duplicated. She had exquisite taste and freely handed out fashion advice to others in an effort to encourage them to raise their standards and present their best impression.

Freddie was very involved in her community. She served on several boards, including the Central Area Motivation Program (CAMP) and the Cierra Sisters. She was an affiliate of Sigma Gamma Rho, Grambling Alumni and enjoyed volunteering for the Day of Caring toy drive for children. She coordinated with Mount Zion Baptist Church, other churches and the Fire Department to purchase and deliver toys to needy families. She was active in Blacks in Government (BIG), traveling to national conferences and holding local, regional and state offices, including Vice President and Secretary.

Although Freddie did not have any children, she doted on her nieces and nephews. She set-up a Christmas fund for each of them and loved surprising them with gifts of cash every Christmas until they reached adulthood. They loved their Aunt Freddie and she loved them too.

This love extended to her great nieces and nephews as well. She believed in family unity and demonstrated how much she loved and cared for her family throughout her life.

Freddie was independent, authentic and pure-hearted. You could count on her to do what she said she would do in every situation. She will be greatly missed by her family, her Church, her friends and the community.

Freddie Louise Curry departed this life on August 31, 2016. She was preceded in death by her parents, Sammie and Hattie Moore; sister, Beatrice Moore and husband Luene B. Curry.
