James W. Watson

James Watson was born in Durham, North Carolina on Sept. 4, 1926. He was called home on May 12, 2016.

Mr. Watson fought in World War II under General Patton. Upon returning home, he attended North Carolina A&T State University, earning his degree in Engineering. Mr. Watson moved to Seattle and became one of the first Black engineers at Boeing Corporation, where he met and married Sadie Allen. They had a son Nicholas Watson who is deceased.

Many know him as an avid bowler. But most do not know that he earned a position in the Washington State Bowlers Hall of Fame.

His second marriage was to Telitha M. Watson, deceased. He is survived by his son Don N. Smith and his daughter-in-law Denisha V. Smith of Kent, WA. He also has a granddaughter, Sarah Holden Smith and great granddaughter Te’a T. Holden.

Mr. Watson is also survived by his second cousin John Holder of Durham, North Carolina. He is an uncle to numerous nieces and nephews and has cousins residing in North Carolina as well as a multitude of friends worldwide.

A voice is gone.

Mr. Watson will be laid to rest at Evergreen Washelli Cemetery and a graveside ceremony will be held on May 28, 2016, 12:00 pm, 11111 Aurora Avenue North, Seattle, WA.

The viewing will be held from 12:00 noon to 8 pm, May 27, 2016 at the Chapel on Washelli grounds. There will also be a repast from 2:30 pm – 6:00 pm, May 28, 2016 at the Elks Cascade Lodge 1416, 9116 Martin Luther King Way South, Seattle, WA.
