O’Dea Cruises against Auburn

By Darryl Reese The O’Dea Fighting Irish cruised into the 3A state quarterfinals Friday night against the Auburn Trojans. The Fighting Irish (11-0 overall) rode the legs of senior running back Johri Fogerson to victory against the Trojans (8-3). In the first quarter, the game plan seemed simple: get the ball to Fogerson. After slipping on his first two carries of the evening, Fogerson finally got his legs under him on a run that turned into a 45-yard touchdown run. Fogerson showed why he is a state player of the year candidate by breaking tackles and skirting around defenders for most of the game. The stingy Trojan defense played tough all night, but were overcome by O’Dea’s talented offensive line and offensive weapons. The O’Dea defense allowed only one field goal all night long, that one coming late in the second quarter. Fogerson and the Fighting Irish offense moved the ball with great efficiency, which led to a 19-yard run by Fogerson, as O’Dea led 14-3 at the half. During the second half O’Dea opened the floodgates, this time with senior quarterback Donald Lisowski getting leading the charge. Lisowski completed a 12-yard pass to John Buhrman for the first score of the half. On their next possession he ran 12 yards into the endzone, bringing the score to 28-3. Zachary Fogerson got involved as well, as he chipped in 52 rushing yards and a handful of useful blocks. The Trojans got into the redzone a total of three times on the night, but only converting one field goal, turning the ball over the other two times. Johri Fogerson ended the night with another touchdown run, this time from 17 yards out, giving him his third touchdown of the night. Fogerson finished with an astonishing 212 yards and three touchdowns, on just 18 carries. Lisowski rushed for 67 yards, as O’Dea racked up over 300 yards on the ground. The O’Dea Fighting Irish plays Meadowdale High School on Friday night at Edmonds Stadium at 7:00 pm.
