Friday night Memorial Stadium featured a massive double-header beginning first with a 3A/4A matchup between the Bothell Cougars (1-1) and the O’Dea Fighting Irish (2-0).
The Irish Looked to capitalize early utilizing a strong rushing attack led by senior running back Cameron Daniels, junior Tajj Dyles and sophomore K’son Mika, who recorded the Irish’s first touchdown late in the first quarter. The Cougars’ plan of attack looked to be to get senior running back Christian Galvan involved early and often leading to an early 52-yard scamper, as he left O’Dea defenders in a cloud of dust resulting in a 7-0 ball game.
As the 2nd quarter began Bothell looked to spread it around and get the football in to the hands of their dynamic receiver Jordyn Turner, who caught two second quarter touchdown passes from quarterback Andrew Sirmon giving the Cougars the lift they needed to make it a 20-7 ball game.
Looking to regroup on defense, O’Dea, led by junior defensive lineman Owen Prentice stuffing the run, began imposing their will up front. The Irish also placed two defenders on Turner totally taking him out the game. O’Dea punched it in just before the half on a 3-yard touchdown run by Daniels bringing the score to 14-20 at the half.
At the start of the 2nd half, O’Dea was able to control the line of scrimmage on defense forcing the Cougars into quick three and outs and giving O’Dea chances to strike on offense which they struck gold scoring again on a 4-yard touchdown run by Mika.
The Final score gave the Fighting Irish of O’Dea a 29-23 win over the Cougars of Bothell.
O’Dea’s Cameron led all rushers with 17 carries for 103 yards and one touchdown. Sirmon completed 6 of 13 passes for 116 yards and two touchdowns to lead the Cougars, while Turner finished the game with 6 receptions for 101 yards and two touchdowns.
