Kejohn Atkins scored 16 points, while John Hart chipped in 11 as Rainier Beach (18-9) defeated Evergreen (Vancouver) 61-52 in a WIAA Boys 3A state tournament loser out game.
Trailing 31-30 at the half, the Vikings went on a 11-0 run to begin the third quarter and closed out the quarter leading 43-34.
In the fourth quarter, Evergreen closed the gap to 49-47, but the Vikings closed out the game outscoring the Plainsmen 12-7 to preserve the win.
After the game, Hart talked about the major role that Atkins played in the victory.
“We needed him (Atkins) to help out big tonight and he came out and did what he needed to do,” said Hart about the play of Atkins.
Rainier Beach will now face Kamiakin tomorrow (Thur., May 5) at 12:15 p.m. in a quarter final matchup at the Tacoma Dome.
