Rainier Beach Gets Back To Business With 20-7 Victory Over Ballard (w/photos)

By RayJaun Stelly, The Seattle Medium

Rainier Beach returned to action this week after missing two weeks due to Covid 19. In their first league game, the Vikings would face Ballard who were looking to bounce back from their loss last week to Garfield.

Both teams struggled to find their rhythm offensively, the Vikings punted within the first 1:17 of the game and Ballard missed a field goal attempt. Both defenses made their presence known before Rainier Beach broke the ice.

Rainier Beach’s offense found their rhythm after Ballard’s missed field goal attempt. The Vikings completed two fourth down conversions before running back Scot’Tre Humphrey scored the games’ first touchdown with a few seconds left in the first quarter.

Ballard responded quickly by returning the kickoff for a touchdown tying the game at 7-7, before heading into the second quarter. To start the quarter, Rainier Beach continued their rhythm offensively before a tipped pass led to a Ballard interception.

The game became a defensive battle again as neither team allowed momentum to sway in one’s favor. But late in the second quarter, the Vikings’ offense picked up where they left off during the first quarter, as quarterback Chance Guadiz found Nahmeir Robinson for a touchdown pass, extending the Vikings’ lead to 14-7 before halftime.

At halftime, the Vikings would make a quarterback change giving Dianzhante King the start for the second half, and enhance their momentum.

Rainier Beach would establish their rushing attack and time of possession, which resulted in another touchdown by Humphrey as the Vikings extended their lead to 20-7.

Rainier Beach’s defense as a whole was in sync forcing two interceptions, punts, turnover on downs, and not allowing Ballard to establish their rushing attack.

Humphrey’s second rushing touchdown would be the last score from either team, and after two weeks of no games the Vikings’ got their first win in league play. Improving to a record of 2-1 on the season, the Vikings will now face Garfield next week at home.
