Rainier Beach quarterback Chance Gaudiz threw three touchdown and ran for another, while teammate Scot’Tre Humphrey ran for three touchdowns of his own, as the Viking defeated Seattle Prep 46-35 Saturday night at Rainier Beach.
Seattle Prep scored first as quarterback Braeden Smith connected with Jack Velling on a touchdown pass to give the Panthers an early 7-0 lead.
However, Rainier Beach struck back as Gaudiz hit receiver Jaelin Green for a 29-yard touchdown pass, and followed up with a 47-yard touchdown pass to A’Shaki Davis as the Vikings took at 14-7 lead.
Smith immediately answered the Rainier Beach touchdown as he returned the kickoff 94 yards to the Viking 5-yard line. The play set up a 5-yard touchdown pass from Smith to Velling to tie the game at 14.
Gaudiz would go on to connect with Ellis Branca on a 35-yard touchdown pass, and Humphrey would score on a 2-yard touchdown run as Rainier Beach took at 27-14 lead into the half.
Seattle Prep would close the gap to 27-21 in the third quarter, when Drew Velling blocked a punt that was picked up and returned for a touchdown by Austin Harnetiaux.
Rainier Beach would build a 39-21 lead with rushing touchdowns by Gaudiz and Humphrey before Smith would break loose for a 19-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter, as Seattle Prep cut the lead to 39-28.
Rainier Beach would eventually put the game out of reach, as Humphrey would score on a 15-yard touchdown run late in the fourth quarter to give the Vikings a 46-28 lead. Seattle Prep would get their final touchdown with 16 second left in the game as Smith connected with Velling for their third touchdown pass of the game.
Smith would finish the game with total of four touchdowns (3 passing, 1 rushing) as Seattle Prep, who finished in 5th place in the Metro League’s Mountain Division, must play their way into the state tournament by advancing through the Metro League playoffs this week.
